Homeopathic software of the future

At the time of writing, homeopathic software is ideally being used as a tool for rapid access to homeopathic repertories and materia medicae, and an evaluation of the data gathered, primarily based on various statistical methods. In case a homeopath will encounter a person who experiences “throbbing in the local parts”, has a “corpulent appearance”, but “thin lower limbs”, homeopathic software will be able to identify these symptoms as belonging to Ammonium Muriaticum. Although the wording and also the exact meaning is different, based on the information and relationships stored in the general and symptomatic layers, homeopathic software will be able to consider them a sufficient match.

Now let’s talk about the type of books you want and don’t want to have in a homeopathic software. In homeopathy, we have three main categories of books – repertories, materia medicae and books on homeopathic philosophy. Which ones do you need to have in your homeopathic software?

The answer depends on how you plan to use the homeopathic software. While it is clearly advantageous to include repertories in a homeopathic software (as presented in Part I), the situation is less obvious in case of materia medicae and books on homeopathic philosophy. Let’s take it step by step.

Typical materia medica includes some kind of foreword, followed by chapters describing the homeopathic picture of selected homeopathic remedy. For example, you have a chapter on Aconitum Napellus, followed by a chapter on Agaricus Muscarius etc. This typical structuring can be utilized by a homeopathic software and allow linking the chapters to specific remedy and provide a smooth interaction with the repertories.

This, however, assumes a common table of remedy names, on the side of homeopathic software, to which all repertories and materia medicae are linked. Experienced homeopaths who do not use any homeopathic software prescribe on keynotes or key symptoms for each remedy. But imagine this – even if you knew a hundred keynotes for hundred remedies (I am quite confident they usually know no more than twenty per remedy), you are still hopelessly far to encompass tens of thousands of symptoms available in modern repertories.

The conclusion is obvious: if a homeopathic practitioner does not use any homeopathic software, even with a phenomenal memory, they are putting the largest part of homeopathic knowledge away and utilizing just that tiny fraction they can master. What a waste.

With widespread use of many suppressing drugs pharmaceutical industry produces, the cure is more difficult to achieve than it was a hundred years ago. It is therefore even more essential to base our prescriptions on solid foundations and without limitations of oversimplification required by non-computerized approach.
