Suggestions To Help You Handle Your Laundering Responsibilities

You may be like many people and find that laundry sometimes piles up and you become overwhelmed. If you find that dirty clothes seem to overflow your hampers, and clean clothes sit folded in baskets if they even make it out of the dryer at all, you need a laundry makeover. Here are some tips for helping you come up with a better system.

Start by getting a laundry schedule set up. At least weekly, designate a day as ‘laundry day.’ On that day you will do all of your laundry from beginning to end, including putting it away.

That doesn’t mean the laundry has to be a full load. Just do whatever you have on the designated day. If you have a lot of laundry, or are doing laundry for several people, you may need more than one laundry day per week. Regardless, stick to your schedule and get it all done on the designated day.

Cull your wardrobe. If you are constantly doing laundry you may simply have too many clothes. If you have more than you need, see if you can’t get rid of some of them. Take a day and sort what can go away, and donate what you don’t want to keep.

Children add to a laundry burden. Older children, though, should be doing laundry tasks. After the age of 10 a child can help with their laundry. Even younger children can be taught to put away their clean clothes. Help them master tasks until they are ready to wash, dry, fold, and put away their own items. That will cut down on your laundry volume a lot.

How is your laundry room set up? Ideally you will have a hanger bar for hanging clothes that should not go in the dryer, or ones that need to be hung immediately when they come out. It helps with clutter and your clothes stay nicer longer. If you can’t fit in a full hanger bar, try some hooks on the walls.

A laundry space that is big enough should also have a laundry table. If you have a table nearby you can take clothes out of the dryer and fold them right on the table immediately. They won’t have time to wrinkle, and then they’ll be all ready to be put away.

These tips are a great start for taming the laundry beast in your house. Start with even just a few, and it will help prevent the misery of mounds of unwashed laundry that can cause so much stress.
