Practical Pillow Info

Let me ask you, what do you think of when you hear the word “pillow”? Dreaming the night away supported by a downy soft pillow while burrowed under the covers. Or something else?

If you are one who sleeps with a pile of pillows, or with ones that are too big, small or soft,, or you do not use one at all then a good night’s sleep is likely eluding you. Besides sleeping without proper support to your neck may cause spinal problems. So possibly some information on pillow selection would be of benefit?

But first, you might wonder why so much fuss over a pillow? It is important because when your head and spine do not line up right, you can end up with a troublesome back or neck issues. Only the right pillow can solve these problems.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. When you use, say, pillows that are too tall, your head gets jerked forwards and is out of line with your spinal column the whole night. Increasing the chances you’ll wake up with a stiff neck.

Not using a pillow at all isn’t a good idea either for the same reason. Nothing is supporting your head to keep it in alignment with your spine.

Working all day staring at a computer monitor only adds to the problem – as we tend to lean in for some reason. Which only invites more back, neck and shoulder discomfort. .

Luckily most of these problems can be avoided by choosing the proper pillow.

A snug down pillow is usually a good choice! It holds your head and neck in good balance and is very comfortable too.

Or if you already suffer from neck pain why not go with one of those foam pillows that are designed to cradle your neck with a scooped out middle? Sleeping on your back then to get the most out of this design.

Plus how you sleep, whether on your side, back or tummy also plays a role in your decision. As does how much you’re asking the pillow to support in the first place.

While those with allergies are better off if they choose a hypoallergenic synthetic pillow and cover it with mite proof covers. You might even try the Breathe Well pillows which are asthma friendly.

Yet in the end it all comes down to personal preference since there is no one size fits all solution here. And for those who like lots of choices, well, you’re in luck. Your options include everything from memory foam to latex to various types of down to pillows you pump up. With the more deluxe models sporting headphone outlets even or are constructed out of hypoallergenic materials.

How to decide? Well for sure a test run can help. That’s right. You want to spend some time with the one you think might work to see how it really feels.

Anyway, there you go.! You are now well equipped to take home a pillow that’s created only for you! Well almost. Remember, it is not only the appearance that matters most. You want a pillow that will give your neck and head the best support possible. Pick right and it’s time to sleep tight.
