Panic Attacks Treatment To Help Overcome This Dreadful Disorder
What is a panic attack? Basically a panic attack is when for some reason your body overreacts to a situation and goes into panic mode. Panic is a normal bodily response when put in a dangerous situation but with panic attacks they tend to happen when panic is really not needed.
When a person suffers from panic attacks they react in an irrational way to certain situations and this can be brought on by stress, depression and anxiety. Once a person has their first panic attacks then the simple fear of another attack is enough to cause further attacks.
Symptoms of panic attacks will also vary from person to person but generally include dizziness, a racing heartbeat, difficulty breathing, feeling cold or hot and more. You don’t need to continue to put up with panic attacks though as they are treatable and you can eliminate the condition for good.
Panic disorder is then when a person starts suffering from recurring panic attacks happening on a regular basis and really interrupting your life. When attacks start affecting your life to this extent then you have full blown panic disorder.
The treatment you may choose for your panic attacks might depend on your personal views and whether you prefer to use medication or a more natural approach. Some medications can help to a certain extent but will not get rid of the problem completely. Therapies have known to be quite successful in treating panic attacks and also some more natural treatments such as meditation and relaxation therapy can also be very effective.
Medications like Benzodiazepines, Xanax, Klonopin and Ativan are anti-anxiety medications which can help to reduce the symptoms of panic attacks as well as general anxiety which can help reduce panic. These medications can be quite addictive and should be used with caution and in accordance with your doctors instructions. Antidepressants can also be used to help with panic attacks by improving your general happiness which won’t eliminate panic attacks but can help reduce them and recude the severity of them.
Cognitive behavioral therapy tends to work really well in overcoming panic disorder. This is one of the most popular panic attacks treatment as it is often very successful in curing panic attacks permanently. This therapy works by finding the possible cause of your attacks and working through any issues that might exist. It also teaches you how to think differently about these issues and to learn to deal with situations in a much more positive and less fearful way. Retraining your mind to deal with things differently is a huge part of overcoming this disorder.
Another effective treatment is exposure therapy which involves confronting your fears and facing those situations that do bring on panic attacks. Although this can sound a bit scary, it is done at your own pace and only when you think you are ready. It can be done slowly over time and combined with cognitive behavioural therapy is extremely effective in overcoming panic disorder permanently.
Other alternative therapies like yoga, relaxation and meditation are also very effective in treating panic disorder as they help to calm and clear your mind. Reducing the stress in your life also goes a long way to a healthy mind.
It is recommended that if you use medication to help with your panic attacks symptoms that you should also combine it with some time of therapy treatment. Medication will only help with the symptoms but will not actually address the problem and so there is a good chance that if you stop taking the medications your attacks will return.
