Learning About Acrochordon

Imagine the scenario you are bathing and you notice small bits of skin just hanging there. It may be under your armpit or on your eyelid or even on your neck.

Have you ever wondered what they are? Well the answer to that question is they are called skin tags or to give it its proper name Acrochordon. These irregular brown wrinkled bits of skin can be found almost anywhere on your body.

As well as being found under your armpit, on your neck or on your eyelids they mostly appear on the more sensitive parts of your body. Mainly skin tags appear wherever the skin has been rubbed either by more skin or by clothes on your body.

Some younger people can find skin tags on their bodies although it is mainly attributed to the older age or middle age group. They do not appear at birth as people tend to acquire skin tags as they grow.

If the activities of small children and toddlers create skin friction then they too could get skin tags. Don’t be alarmed if you see your child with a new hanging piece, it probably has to do with this.

Pregnant women are susceptible to skin tags due to their hormonal changes in their bodies. Overweight people are also susceptible to this problem due to the fact that their body parts can inadvertently rub together. People with diabetes are also thought to suffer from this problem too.

Skin tags are thought to be a kind of benign tumor. However it has been proven that they do not cause cancer if you leave them untreated. Skin tags can cause some irritation if they are continually rubbed but in general are not very painful.

It has been reported in some cases where certain skin tags have grown large enough to burst although this is not common. Should this ever happen and they start to bleed it would be a god idea go consult your doctor on the matter, if only to prevent them from getting any kind of infection.
