Does Decaf Green Tea Have The Same Benefits As Regular Green Tea?

People are aware of the benefits of green tea. Many of them choose not to drink it though because it has caffein. They have the option to go with the decaf green tea but they prefer not to because of its lack of beneficial compounds. However that isn’t true. The EGCG was found in the same amount for both kinds of tea.

Probably if we all have a clear understanding on how decaf green tea differs from regular green tea, then going for de decaf will definitely be an option. Let’s see in the following how it works!

Caffein can be extracted using two methods. First method uses water and carbon dioxide and the second one ethyl acetate. Both methods have same results only the second one retains 30% of the polyphenols. That gives the decaf green tea resulted a poorer quality. The image of the black dots on the bottom of your tea cup can be easily associated with the process of extracting caffein. Considering the 30% loss in polyphenols we can say that the more beneficial and natural way is definitely the first one.

The bitterness in green tea is considered to give the authentic taste. Some people just can’t enjoy a cup of green tea without that taste. Only that the 15mg – 30mg of caffeine contained by a cup of tea is enough to stimulate the central nervous system. Therefor many people choose not to enjoy the bitterness and go for the decaf green tea.

As I was saying earlier, if you associate decaf green tea with the little black dots in your white cup, then you can think about naturally remove the caffeine yourself. For about 45 second you should steep your tea or tea bag in hot water and then just pour off the liquid. Repeat the process again and after just make your tea as you would normally do. The first time you will remove around 80% of the caffeine. Repeating the process will leave you with a very small amount of caffeine.

You can now enjoy the benefits of green tea without worrying about the caffeine contained. Just go for the decaf green tea and that’s it!

Overall green tea is good for and has the same benefits decaf or not. Enjoy decaf green tea and live a healthy life.
