Details About The Tourist Places In Pisa

Pisa is a small town with a population of no more than 100,000 located in the north of Italy. Pisa is known chiefly for its leaning tower; however, there are a few other tourist attractions in Pisa worthy of a visit. Pisa has a long history and served as a strategic naval base during Roman period.

In military and economic circles Pisa is said to have occupied the foremost position in the 12th century, a time when it was considered to be a major maritime power and a city for trade. As a result it abounded in architecture that could be dated back to the 12th century. We have provided an account of some of the tourist places in Pisa.

It is the Leaning Tower that is most renowned not only in Pisa but the whole of Italy. It has attained fame thanks to its deformity. However it attracts thousands from across the globe who enjoy taking pictures of the Leaning Tower.

Entry is restricted inside the tower always for fear of safety, though it is possible to gain entry into the tower by paying 15 Euros. It is better to book your place in advance because there is a limit for the number of people to be allowed into the Tower on a daily basis.

Pisa is known for the Christian baptistery in which people are drawn into the Christian belief. The structure of the baptistery dates back to the 12th century though it was completed only 200 years later.

Romanesque and Gothic styles can be seen in the architecture of this baptistery. A pool-like shape carved out in the middle of the building can be seen inside the baptistery into which water would have been poured and people would have submerged as part of the baptism ritual.

An excellent instance of Romanesque architecture that was typical of the Tuscany region can be seen in the Cathedral in Pisa.

The building itself is construed to be built in the 11th century with grandiose interior supported by 68 columns. Green and white marble interiors are the attractions of the Cathedral in Pisa. Entrance fee to this Cathedral is 2 Euros.
