Best Sports For Getting Fit
Nowaday, it seems like everyone is talking about being more active. If you are like most people you think this means working out in a gym. But did you know you can get great exercise from participating in a sport of some kind? Some people find that they enjoy sport far more than the gym. Some people just dont get on with the cost and routine of a gym.
Do you love to be in the water swimming? Then routinely go for a swim. There are even indoor pools that have lap-swim times available. Even swimming once or twice a week along with other activities is great for you.
Have you thought about joining a baseball or softball team? These teams practice usually a few times a week and then have one game usually on the weekends. There is plenty of running and stretching that goes on with this sport.
Basketball can be played one on one or on a team for some fun and fitness combined. Running around the court and jumping to shoot gets the heart rate up. This is great cardio exercise. Also you have to stretch to shoot good baskets.
Skating is another sport that can be done instead of going to the gym. Depending on what’s available in your area, you can choose from ice skating or roller skating. Either one is a great workout. Also these sports can improve you coordination since both require you to have good balance.
You can go cycling on roads or on trails. The equipment for each type is quite specific. For off-road cycling you need a heavier-duty bike than just riding through the city on paved streets. Make sure to have your helmet, knee and elbow pads on for you protection in case of a fall.
Getting involved in some form of martial arts is another good way of working out while having fun. You can develop such great mental and physical disciplines too that will help you in other parts of your life.
Bowling has long been a great social sport. You have to build a certain amount of strength to be able to throw the ball the right way down the lane to the pins. Not only strength, but stretching is required too.
Tennis allows you to run and workout your arms at the same time. Volleying the ball back and forth over tennis nets trying to score points takes skill. It is a very effective way of staying fit too.
Boxing is excellent cardio whether you do it with just a bag or another person. Sparring with another individual though allows you to get a more full-body workout that just punching a bag.
These are just a few of the sports you can participate in to become fit. Fitness can be fun through these sports too. You do not just have to go and pump iron in a gym or run on a treadmill to be fit. Sports allow you to play while you get in shape.
